Studiorum Novi Testamenti Societas (SNTS)

SNTS is an academic society founded in 1938 ‘for the furtherance of New Testament studies internationally’. It is the leading professional body for New Testament scholars worldwide. Membership is by nomination and election only.

The Society has its own journal, New Testament Studies, and a monograph series (SNTSMS). Both of these are published by Cambridge University Press.

SNTS holds a General Meeting each year, hosted by a local organising committee. This includes a presidential address, invited main papers and seminars on topics in New Testament studies. A report on each General Meeting and selected papers delivered at the meeting are published in New Testament Studies. Members may invite guests to participate in the academic parts of the General Meeting.

SNTS also sponsors a series of International Initiatives to promote and support New Testament studies across the world. Currently, these include liaison committees for Eastern Europe, Africa, Latin America & The Caribbean and the Asia Pacific region.

SNTS is run by a committee consisting of charity trustees and officers elected from its membership, who serve for a fixed period. A leading New Testament scholar serves as the Society’s President each year. The President for 2026–27 is Professor Adele Reinhartz.
